Hannah Sayers is the artist behind ‘Sayers Studio’ based in Co. Wicklow, Ireland. She is a semi abstract artist and concentrates mainly on the flora and fauna of Ireland drawing her collection themes from them. Much of her inspiration comes from her hometown on the Dingle Peninsular in Co. Kerry. Hannah usually creates an abstract background and layers over it with animals or flowers.

Hannah has always been passionate about art. Her Grandmother was an artist in retirement and Hannah has “such amazing memories of painting and drawing with her”. Having an “incredible” art teacher in school really helped to nurture her love for creating. “I went on to study at the Limerick School of Art & Design before transferring to the National College of Art & Design (NCAD) in Dublin to complete a degree in Art & Design Education”. However, Hannah left the art world for many years after she suffered a creative burn out after college. During this time she went into Corporate Communications before setting up Sayers Studio in 2020.

Hannah usually puts brush to canvas of inspirations from “memories of landscapes at home in Co. Kerry” or the flora and fauna of Ireland. “There is so much to be explored on our amazing Island and the inspiration is endless”. Hannah often starts her pieces by being drawn to a particular colour and layering from there.

When asked how she describes her success as an artist, Hannah said, “I saw a quote recently that said something like, ‘think about where you are now compared to where you were a few years ago and where you could be in a few years’ time’”. Hannah reflects on this quote by realising how far she has come in the past couple of years, taking the leap to set up her own business doing what she loves and what she could achieve in the future, perhaps even opening her own studio shop.

This month, Hannah is running a competition to raffle off two of her rose canvases to raise money for Breast Cancer Research. “Unfortunately I lost my Mother, Nanny and Granny all before my 10th birthday to breast cancer. Every year I try to do something to promote or raise money in their memories and this year I have created two canvases of roses.Roses mean a lot to many people especially love and friendship so they seemed a very apt abstract representation for the subject”.
