Rumors of a Smiths reunion were recently quashed by Morrissey, who claims that he has not been approached in relation to an appearance at Glastonbury in 2013.

However, passion for the band lives on.

Fans from all over the world continue to travel to Manchester in the hope of casting their eyes on famous Smiths landmarks.

There are also Smiths tribute bands, such as These Charming Men, from Dublin, who continue to charm fans of The Smiths and Morrissey all around the globe with their finely tuned energetic and passionate live shows.

Many Dublin musicians admit to being highly influenced by Morrissey and The Smiths. “They just had such a raw sound. The combination of melodies and lyrics was, and still is so addictive,” says Dublin based guitarist,Andy Pollard.

This video features some of the core Smiths landmarks in Manchester, including Salford Lads Club, 384 Kings Road, The Iron Bridge, Southern Cemetery, Strangeways prison, The Free Trade Hall and the G-MEX.

The Bram Stoker Festival: Spraoi theatre group recreates Stoker’s Dublin!

    Lynne Swan

Dubliners were in for a treat this past weekend as the first Bram Stoker festival took place in the city. The festival provided, mostly, free, but, ticketed events celebrating the life and writings of one of our most beloved and well-known authors, Bram Stoker. The Spraoi theatre group recreated Stoker’s world as seen in his most well-known book, Dracula. Dublin Castle was transformed for the night and filled with terrifying looking creatures of the night and Stoker himself warned the crowd of the dangers of the world we had just stepped into from atop his wooden podium.

This event took place on Sunday, 28th October, 2012

A study carried out by NUI Maynooth in October 2012, on behalf of the Irish Red Cross shows that 95% of people surveyed would not respond in an emergency situation, such as a traffic accident or cardiac arrest, as they feared not being competent enough to offer assistance, even if they have been trained in first aid.
We went to the streets of Dublin to see what the public thought.

But should it be legalised? Here’s what the people of Dublin think.

Sculpture in Context 2012 continues to build on 26 years experience in organising successful exhibitions.

Eleven of these exhibitions have been hosted by the National Botanic Gardens. Both established and emerging artists submit work and this annual exhibition is one of the most prestigious outdoor sculpture exhibitions in Ireland.

The National Botanic Gardens are not only a botanical haven and quiet oasis on the outskirts of Dublin. The gardens also offer a challenging venue which gives the artist the opportunity of realising large scale work.

It also gives visitors an opportunity to ramble and explore, sometimes finding sculptures in the most unusual of places.

With the exhibition due to wrap up on October 19th, get your running shoes on! It really is well worth the visit!
